Who are you?
The Modern World is a graphic design studio specialising in brand identity, design for print, web, spaces and exhibitions.
How did the business come about?
The Modern World is run by husband and wife team, Matt and Jen Lewis. After 17 years in the design industry, working up from Junior Designer to Creative Director, Matt decided it was time to setup his own thing.
After two successful years building up a client base, Jen decided to quit her full–time job and bring her skillset to the business.
Matt’s design agency background has led him to work on extensive B2B/B2C brand and marketing campaigns. Delivering projects across every channel for clients such as Manchester United FC, Unilever, The National Trust and ASICS.
Jen brings over 15 years marketing experience in retail and wholesale. As Senior Account Manager for Clarks Shoes, she has worked with a number of independent and national retail brands such as John Lewis, Selfridges and Debenhams.
How long has your business been in existence?
The Modern World has been in existence just over 3 years.
How many people do you employ?
We are both born and bred in Warrington. We love our town and are passionate about helping businesses within the town to shine. We want to be a part of something special and we are passionate about helping Warrington businesses stand out and be noticed from a afar through modern effective branding and graphic design. Never mind all your fancy agencies in Manchester and Liverpool, Warrington has something special to offer too.
What job or achievement makes you most proud?
Apart from having our 2 children we’re most proud of the fact we took the plunge to set up our business, managed to grow it, move out from working from home, and for Jen to quit her job and come on board.
The business is growing and going from strength to strength. We’ve grown with our existing client based as well bringing on board some exciting new clients this year. We’ve built our business from our reputation, attention to detail and exceptional customer service.
Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know?
Apart from Jen having a huge hidden talent in singing (errr NOT), Matt is a keen musician and is part of group based out of Liverpool who put on electronic music nights, do a radio show, produce and release music for other musicians. We’ve also put on a one-day festival as well as other interesting projects such as a regular printed publication.
Who are the people most important in life to you?
Our 2 kids, Elsie 7 and George 3. Everything we do is for them. We want to be able to give them the best in life whilst also setting an example that if you work hard you can achieve your dreams.
We are a very close family, living 5 mins from our parents and Matts brother and we spend most weekends collectively together for Sunday dinner.
What is your ‘get through lockdown tip’?
It’s certainly been a challenge trying to run a business from home and home school at the same time so for us what’s been key is keeping a routine, trying to exercise, together and alone, oh and gin of course.
