Meet the Real Face of Business

Chris Perkins

One Objective

Who are you?

I am Chris Perkins and I run my own small business, One Objective. I provide outsourced marketing expertise and work as a ‘Part Time Marketing Director’ for my clients, providing all the skills, experience, decision making capability and leadership that you would expect from a Marketing Director, but at a fraction of the cost, as I only work part time for each client.

I am from Warrington originally, went to school in Great Sankey and after living all over the UK and overseas for 25 years, have set up home with my family and am hoping to help the development of Warrington as a great place to live and work.

How did the business come about?

After working for corporate and private business for over 20 years, I wanted to take on a new challenge working for myself. Over the years working in sales, marketing and business development I have learned a lot about many different industries and sectors, with a common them of dealing with consumers. My business uses my skills and experience to help small and medium size businesses with their marketing direction – making a difference that will ultimately drive sales for those businesses.

How long has your business been in existence?

I set up the business in September last year, so I am still very much a start up.

What job or achievement makes you most proud?

Throughout my career, I have been really lucky to have some interesting, fun and challenging jobs both in the UK and overseas. I think my favourite has been working for a Luxury Expedition Cruise line in Australia. The office was in Sydney, but the ships used to travel all over Australia and Asia, including the Kimberley region of Australia, Papua New Guinea, Antarctica and Borneo. An incredible opportunity to visit some of the most remote and diverse places on the planet.

Who are the people most important in life to you?

My family are the most people in my life. My beautiful and inspiring wife Ange and my two amazing kids, Dylan, 11 and Rosie, 7. Moving from a more regular 9 to 5 job to setting up my own business working from home, came from a decision to change my work/life balance and get to spend more time at home with the family.

Why Warrington?

I grew up in Warrington and lived in Great Sankey until I went off to University. My first proper job was working for that famous Warrington company, Greenalls. After that I have lived all over the UK and also lived in Sydney, becoming an Australian citizen.

When my family returned from Australia we chose Warrington as our new base as we are familiar with the town and the people. Its a great location with so many facilities and things to do.

My wife has set up a successful travel business in the town – Designer Travel by Angela Perkins – and my children both go to local schools.

Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know?

Last year I wrote and published a book. This was something I have always wanted to do and it took me over a year to write. It has brought me all sorts of new experiences and introduced me to new people. I was approached by the local high school and the book is now in their library and really popular with their pupils.

It is also stocked in Waterstones in Warrington. I get a real buzz to see it on the shelf alongside books by famous authors. The book is called ‘Let’s Talk About Six’ and recounts Liverpool winning the Champions League in Madrid last year. It also tells the story of growing up in Warrington in the 1980’s as a Liverpool fan.

What is your ‘get through lockdown tip’?

The lockdown is very frustrating, especially when we are trying to run two separate businesses.
My tip is to draw a line between the things that you can control and those you can’t. Its important to identify the elements that are outside of your control and just not worry about them – because there is little or nothing you can do about it. Instead, focus your attention on the things in life you can change.

And keep smiling!!!
